The Nursing-Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program at State Tech builds on the skills of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), preparing them to advance their careers and become Registered Nurses (RNs). Through a combination of classroom learning, clinical practice, and simulation experiences, students develop the knowledge and confidence to provide exceptional patient care across a variety of healthcare settings.
The curriculum covers Mental Health Nursing, Women and Child Care Nursing, and Health Psychology, equipping students with a well-rounded understanding of nursing practice. Students spend two days at clinical sites, gaining valuable real-world experience under the guidance of skilled healthcare professionals.
Both recent Practical Nursing Technology (PNT) graduates and practicing LPNs are eligible to apply. Upon completion, students are prepared to take the RN licensure exam and enter a rapidly growing field, one that’s projected to have over 193,000 openings for RNs annually nationwide.
State Tech graduates are ready to make a difference from day one, bringing skill, compassion, and professionalism to every patient they serve.
At State Tech, you don’t just advance your career: you advance patient care.

The demand for nurses remains strong and is projected to grow in the coming years. Retirements, and expanding healthcare needs (especially as the population ages) ensure nursing remains a reliable and in-demand career path.
With small classroom settings and hands-on training in our lab, you’ll be well prepared to step right into a clinical setting. The program includes work on-site at hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities in the Jefferson City area to equip you with the technical and personal skills needed to help return patients to their normal lives.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing is a three-semester program. Students will participate in clinicals at approved healthcare agencies that may include local hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, and area schools. Upon successful completion of the program and approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, students become eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing prepares the licensed practical nurse (LPN) as a professional registered nurse (RN). Our program focuses on the nursing process, critical thinking skills, managing care of clients in the inpatient setting, and focuses on client safety.
Graduates of this program are generalists with the necessary academic preparation to pursue further nursing degrees and continuing professional development.
