The Dental Assisting Technology program at State Tech prepares students for an exciting and rewarding career in oral health care. Through hands-on training in state-of-the-art lab settings and clinical environments, students gain the practical skills and confidence needed to thrive in a fast-paced dental practice.
Students learn to perform essential chairside procedures, including taking X-rays, polishing teeth, applying sealants, taking impressions, and providing oral health education to patients. The program also includes training in four Missouri Dental Expanded Functions and instruction to prepare for Monitoring and Administering Nitrous Certification, giving graduates a competitive edge in the field.

Their importance is increasing as dentists delegate more tasks, patient volumes grow, and preventative oral health becomes a priority, making skilled assistants essential to efficient dental practices.
In this program, students will learn the chairside Dental Assisting skills required for placement in an exciting industry. Students will learn to take x-rays, polish teeth, apply dental sealants, take impressions, and provide oral health instructions. While in the program, students have the advantage of being taught 4 Missouri Dental Expanded Functions, as well as what they will need to obtain Monitoring and Administering Nitrous Certification.
Upon successful completion of the program, Dental Assisting Technology students will be state certified in Assisting in the Administration of and Monitoring Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Anesthesia and eligible to sit for the Missouri Dental Assisting Skills exam.

This certificate program includes 1,166 total instructional hours, including a minimum of 300 clock hours of clinical study in which students will participate at approved clinical sites.
The Dental Assisting Technology program is an eleven-month program with general education courses taken the prior summer semester. To be successful, students need effective communication skills and a solid background in science and math.
