State Technical College of Missouri instructor Tina Fick was awarded the 2014 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education.

“It was such an honor to be chosen among so many dedicated and talented instructors,” said Fick.

In her six years with the college, Fick has made quite an impact on her students.  She currently serves as a mathematics instructor in the General Education department.  Fick teaches five courses at the college with an average pass rate of 80%.

Student involvement is the key to Fick’s teaching style. She works to keep her students engaged and involved while in her classroom.   “We solve problems step by step and we do it together,” said Fick.  “If a student is having trouble understanding a problem, I adjust my approach to better fit their learning style.”

“Tina, like so many of our instructors, has a passion for what she teaches,” said Dr. Donald Claycomb, President of State Technical College of Missouri. “Her dedication to the success of each students serves our campus well.”

The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching is presented to an outstanding faculty member from each participating higher education institution in the state. Faculty peers nominate award recipients and a recommending committee composed of past recipients forwards their recommendation to the college president for submission.

Linn Sate Technical College is Missouri’s only state technical college.  Hands-on technical courses balanced with a strong foundation in communication, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking prepare graduates for profitable employment and a life of learning.
