State Tech students and staff give back with service learning
Students and staff at State Technical College of Missouri have designed and installed new pantry and storage shelves for the Good Shepherd Food Pantry in Linn, MO.
The community service project, spearheaded by the Assistant Dean of Extended Programs, Aaron Kliethermes, will allow the pantry to improve storage for food items and winter clothing as well as restage their volunteer work area.
Working closely with the pantry, Kliethermes and students fulfilling service learning components of their curriculum have built the shelves to meet the specific space and storage needs of the pantry in time for their busiest season.
Martha Ray, Community Organizer for Central Missouri Community Action, applauds their dedicated efforts.
“Aaron and his students have been determined to complete this work for the pantry and the clients it serves,” said Ray. “Because of their efforts, more families will be able to keep their children warm this winter, more jackets, coats and winter clothes will be provided to our needier families than ever have before.”
Linn Sate Technical College is Missouri’s only state technical college. Hands-on technical courses balanced with a strong foundation in communication, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking prepare graduates for profitable employment and a life of learning.
On July 1, 2014, State Technical College of Missouri’s name will change to the State Technical College of Missouri. This name change better reflects our statewide role under current Missouri law. Enrollment at the college represents 80 percent of Missouri counties and our graduates fuel the state’s technical workforce.
