State Tech to host Technology Scholars Academy
On Monday, June 10, State Technical College of Missouri will host St. Louis Public Schools Technology Scholars Academy.
Twelve students from a variety of St. Louis public high schools will attend the academy for three weeks, Monday through Thursday, on State Tech’s main campus in Linn, Missouri.
The academy is specifically designed for high school students who will be seniors at the beginning of 2013-2014 school year, have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with their high school.
The academy is intended to provide students with a jump start to their senior year by providing academic and personal growth experiences in a structured, safe and fun academy environment.
While at State Tech, students will learn about construction materials, surveying, mapping and drafting. Participants will get exposure to additional areas such as small gas engines, design drafting, heavy equipment operations and machine tool technology.
Learned skills will be reinforced through group projects, on-site visits and exposure to professionals in the workforce.
Successful completion of the academy will result in three hours of college credit, industry recognized certifications and an IPAD for the students.
Linn Sate Technical College is Missouri’s only state technical college. Hands-on technical courses balanced with a strong foundation in communication, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking prepare graduates for profitable employment and a life of learning.
