State Tech hosts over 2,000 participants for Missouri SkillsUSA
More than 2,200 participants from 71 Missouri high schools and ten community colleges competed Thursday and Friday at the 47th annual Missouri SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference.
State Technical College of Missouri, in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), hosted the conference for the tenth consecutive year.
While attending the conference, students competed in contests including carpentry, welding, auto mechanics, culinary arts, firefighting, job interviewing and leadership skills to name a few.
Along with more than 300 industry partners, college faculty and staff coordinatedover 120 leadership, skill and written contests and other conference activities for the three day event. Industry partners and volunteers served as coordinators and judges for the contest.
Contest results were announced during the awards ceremony Saturday, April 6. Nineteen State Tech students won gold medals qualifying them for National SkillsUSA. Winners from the 2013 Missouri SkillsUSA will represent Missouri at the 49th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City on June 24-28, 2013.
With more than 35 academic programs, State Technical College of Missouri is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission to prepare students for profitable employment and a life of learning.
