State Tech to host Missouri SkillsUSA

For the tenth consecutive year, State Technical College of Missouri will host the 47th annual Missouri SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference on Thursday, April 4 – Saturday, April 6, 2013.

In collaboration with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, State Tech welcomes over 71 Missouri high schools and six community colleges.  On average, 2,300 students and teachers participate in over 120 leadership, skill and written contests preparing students for the National Leadership and Skills Conference contests each year.

Students arrive on campus Thursday, April 4 for registration.  The conference begins at noon with an opening ceremony in the STC Activity Center.  Students compete Thursday afternoon and all day Friday at the STC campus and various locations throughout mid-Missouri.  Contest results are announced during the awards ceremony Saturday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. in the STC Activity Center.

Winners from the 2013 Missouri SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference will represent Missouri at the 49th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City on June 24-28, 2013.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.  It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
