State Tech Lunch & Learn goes Down Under

On January 12, State Technical College of Missouri’s 50th anniversary Lunch & Learn series continues with a special presentation by Nick Rackers, Commercial Turf and Grounds Management Instructor.

In March of 2011, Rackers participated in an agriculturally themed Group Study Exchange (GSE) in Australia through Rotary International.

During Rackers’ month in Australia, he visited sites related to his vocation. He experienced a variety of locations related to the agriculture industry including unique sites such as a lavender farm, a bush food nursery and a sugar cane operation.

“One morning I got up early to help with a milk delivery,” commented Rackers.  “On two occasions I got my hands dirty and planted some native Australian

plants.”

The State Tech Library, hosting the Lunch and Learn series, invites the public to

bring their lunch and learn more about Rackers perspective on Australian

horticulture, as well as Aussie culture, the food, and vocabulary.

The presentation will be held in the Vehicle and Power Center, Room 201 from

12:00 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. For further details, contact Fran Stumpf, Director of

Library Services at 573.897.5202.

With more than 35 academic programs, State Technical College of Missouri is

Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission to

prepare students for profitable employment and a life of learning.
