State Tech to host Missouri SkillsUSA
For the eighth consecutive year, State Technical College of Missouri will host the 45th annual Missouri Leadership and Skills Conference (SkillsUSA) on Thursday, March 31 – Saturday, April 2, 2011.
In collaboration with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, State Tech welcomes over 70 Missouri high schools and six community colleges. On average, 2,000 students and teachers participate in over 120 leadership, skill and written contests preparing students for the National SkillsUSA contests each year.
The entire college campus is utilized for the three day event with 100% participation by all employees. Along with 300 industry partners, the State Tech faculty and staff coordinate contests and conference activities.
Students arrive on campus Thursday, March 31 for registration. The conference begins at noon with an opening ceremony in the STC Activity Center. Students compete Thursday afternoon and all day Friday at the STC campus and various locations throughout mid-Missouri. Contest results are announced during the awards ceremony Saturday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m. in the STC Activity Center.
Winners from the 2010 Missouri Leadership and Skills Conference will represent Missouri at the 47th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (SkillsUSA Championships) in Kansas City on June 19-24, 2011.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
